Grade 8 American History
Grade 8 is when your child is preparing to enter high school and needs to develop stronger study habits, sense of responsibility and critical thinking skills.
This year, I will be providing instruction in the following areas:
Social Studies: We will be studying American History, according to the New Haven Public Schools Social Studies Curriculum here: SS Curriculum
English/Language Arts: I incorporate Language Arts in the history curriculum through listening, speaking, debate, writing and reading text and analyzing historic events.
GRADING It is strongly suggested that all parents and 8th graders use PowerSchool to remain up to date on grades. Logins are the same as your previous; if you do not know yours, I will be able to access them soon and deliver. The grading for this course is as follows: Homework 25% / Projects/Presentations 20% / Classwork and Participation 40% / Tests/Quizzes 15% Homework is given regularly, but may not be every day. It must be completed daily and on time.
WE ARE A TECHNOLOGY/STEAM SCHOOL! Therefore, students should have access to computer/tablet/phone to complete some of the homework assignments via Google Classroom!
Main Goals:
To foster independent thinkers, prepared learners, strategic readers, fluent writers and argument developers, and most of all, knowledgeable 8th graders in preparation for high school.
Classroom Philosophy:
I work diligently to create an atmosphere of mutual respect among my students in the classroom. I require that all students are focused, industrious and kind whenever possible. I love teaching and put 100% into my lessons and time spent with the students. I expect them to do the same with respect, open-mindedness and a willingness to learn from mistakes.
Contact me at any time!
I am available here, at Write Ms. Francis. I am also available at my email address: [email protected], via phone at 475-220-2800 x314, in person at the school (most days I am here until 5:30 PM with the Daedream Company that I direct and founded), and my personal cell phone is available to parents upon request for texting/calling up to 9:00 pm, M-TH. Many of you already have my personal number from previous siblings or Daedream; it's fine to use it if needed between the hours listed!
Attendance is an important part of your child's development and growth, but if there is a need for absence, please note that you can submit an absence here: ABSENCE
I look forward to working with each of you, and I am very much enjoying the prospect of getting to know your children!
